Maxwell is the name of the character played by Tony Roberts. Max is the nickname of his character in another movie by Woody Allen, Annie Hall (1977).
Based on Sommarnattens leende (1955), which in turn inspired Stephen Sondheim's A Little Night Music.
Mendelssohn music was also used in Max Reinhardt's version of Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream, A (1935).
